Household Arts Division

Overall Rules and Regulations
The Household Arts Division of the Fall Festival will be held in the Sulphur Springs High School Conference Center - September 16-17, 2005.

Chairperson:

1. Articles may be exhibited only by the maker and must have been made within the past twelve months (September 2004 - September 2005).
2. A person may enter only one item in a particular subclass of each class. No duplicate items such as two green beans or two decorated cakes. Each individual may enter as many classes and divisions as they desire.
3. Entrants must be Hopkins county residents.
4. Each entrant must pay an entry fee (schedule below), which will be used to cover the cost of the awards. The entry fee entitles the individual to enter as many divisions and classes as they wish.
5. Registration will be held Thursday, September 15th from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m., and Friday, September 16th, from 7:30 to10:00 a.m. at the Sulphur Springs High School.
6. Judging for this division will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 16. No entries will be taken after the 10:00 a.m. deadline.
7. Check out time: Items may be picked up between 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 17th. Please leave all items until this time!
8. All entries must be labeled according to division, class and name of item. Entrant’s name MUST appear on each entry using the required label, available at registration.. In the YOUTH division only, the label should include the entrants age.
9. Children (up to age 10); Youth (ages 11-17); Adult (18-69), Older Texan (70 and above), and Nursing Home divisions will be judged separately. The Nursing Home division will be open to any individual or group who resides in a Hopkins County Nursing Home.
10. Each entry will be awarded a ribbon. Best of Show will be judged from blue ribbon winners and an award given in each division. Professionals may enter for display only and not for competition. A professional is described as anyone who has a source of income from the hobby/activity (example: embroidery business, bakery, photography business, etc.)
11. Winners in each division will have pictures made at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday in the Conference Center at the Sulphur Springs High School.
12. Decisions of the judges if final.
13.. All entries will be on exhibit (for display only) beginning Friday, September 16th at 2:00 p.m. through Saturday, September 17 at 2:00 p.m.

I. CLOTHING
Do not bring articles not listed in exhibit list. Articles must be completely finished, clean, pressed and like new in appearance. Soiled items will not be accepted. Please bring your own hangers. Items will be judged on fabric selection, neatness, construction (basic sewing techniques) and general appearance.

II. Food Preservation
Do not bring articles not listed in exhibit list. Jars must not have their seals broken. All containers must be standard. Each exhibitor will be permitted to enter as many classes as desired. Standard pint, ½ pint, quart or standard jelly jars MUST BE USED with the brand name on the side of the jar. Mayonnaise jars, etc., will not be judged. All exhibits must be clean, rust-free, and in unbroken jars. All canned foods must have been canned within the last 12 months (September 2003 - August 2004). Items will be judged on maturity of product, pack uniformity, texture, and general appearance.

Do not bring articles not listed in exhibit list. Have items in DISPOSABLE containers. Use reseal able zip-lock bags. Include a card with type and kind of baked food. Check exhibit list for number (amount) of each item to be exhibited. All entries, with the exception of decorated cakes, will be cut and samples by the judges. Entries requiring refrigeration will not be accepted.

Do not bring articles not listed in exhibit list. All pictures should be appropriately mounted, either framed or matted. All pictures should be 5" x 7" or larger. This is amateur competition. NO PROFESSIONALS PLEASE!

Each entry will be judged on appearance, shape, color and health and must be in exhibitor’s possession three (3) months prior to fair. . Each exhibitor will be responsible for upkeep of their entry during the fair. Each entry must be grown in Hopkins County. Exhibitor can enter more than one class provided entries differ.
